The Warner Prize 2023

Updated: 11 October 2023
On Tuesday 10th October, Crosfield Hall, Romsey was packed with parents and pupils from The Romsey and Mountbatten Schools for a prestigious prize giving.   The Romsey and District Society’s Warner Prize was being awarded to some 35 Year 7 and 8 pupils who had undertaken outstanding investigations into life in Romsey in earlier times and produced work interpreting their findings.

This annual award is seen as an excellent way of encouraging our young people to view their environment in a different, deeper way and provide a pathway for them to become future protectors of Romsey’s heritage.

The pupils produced an impressive range of work presented in imaginative ways, all displayed at the prize giving event.  Among the prize winners was a metre long town jigsaw of information and a model of the abbey plastered in photos.

Having set up the award in honour of her late husband, Sybil Warner has been providing the prize money for many years which amounts to approximately £500 per annum. We are very grateful for her generosity. It was very pleasing to see her presenting the awards in person this year having missed last year’s event.

The society meets the cost of hiring the hall, printing the certificates and providing light refreshments.
